This kitchen took top honors at the NARI Atlanta Contractor of the Year awards. It won “Best Kitchen Over $150,000. This beautiful kitchen is now open, bright, cozy, and inviting. The clients were looking for a larger kitchen with better flow from the keeping room to the kitchen to the family room. The Counterpoint Group, working with Integrity Home Improvements, designed and provided cabinetry that ended up exceeding client expectations. The clients are thrilled with the natural light that floods in through the kitchen window, the way the kitchen opens to the family room, and the look and feel of all the new cabinetry, countertops, hardwood floors, lighting, and unique and detailed backsplash.
Gordon Bill of Integrity Home Improvement hired The Counterpoint Group to help with the design of the kitchen and to provide the cabinetry. “We knew Marc was good at kitchen design, and he had a number of cabinet lines. We needed quality cabinets and knew he could provide that for our client. Having known Marc Tyson, the owner of The Counterpoint Group, we knew we could work with him.”
In fact, when Marc initially visited with the clients to learn what their goals were with the kitchen, the vision was to expand the kitchen out into what is now the outdoor deck. Understanding that the clients wanted more space and that they wanted to bring the kitchen together with the family room, Marc came up with a design plan no one expected. Instead of expanding the kitchen out into the deck area, he would make the keeping room into the new kitchen. He would expand the “A frame” room, which was under a gabled roof, out six feet. This expansion added sixty additional feet to the kitchen. This design would not change the exterior architectural integrity of the home. It also created a unique and interesting ceiling for the kitchen. The design also called for moving the garage door so that people would not walk from the garage straight into the kitchen.
Using the keeping room for the new kitchen also allowed for an easy way to bring the kitchen together with the family room. Marc’s design called for removing a wall between the two areas. Previously, there had been an open space between the rooms. Marc also designed a coffee bar which brings the rooms together.
When removing the wall between the kitchen and family room, Marc would have to hide the plumbing for the sink. So, he created a thick wall next to the coffee bar, integrated it into the space, and hid the plumbing in the wall.
The kitchen is filled with Mouser Cabinetry, known for its quality and beauty. The inset doors and additional features make the cabinets functional as well as beautiful.
The clients worked well with Marc, and they appreciated that when small problems arose, Marc tended to them quickly and worked through everything to their satisfaction. Ultimately, the clients were very happy with the work of Integrity Home Improvement and The Counterpoint Group.

Cliff and Karen Owen now have a beautiful, updated, and functional kitchen that looks like it came with the home. But, the warm, cozy, and roomy home in Canton was actually built in 1988, when kitchens looked much different than they do today. Cliff remembers everything about that original kitchen, because his grandparents built the home. “It was carpeted, and I remember my grandfather tripping on the carpet as he walked in and spilling chicken and bar-b-que sauce everywhere.”
Cliff also remembered the laminate countertops that eventually began to peel off and the yellow-beige paint colors. Still, he admits it was hard to go along with his wife when she suggested renovating the kitchen. Karen’s choice of remodeling companies and her bargain to cook at home more often helped to sway him. “We have so many great restaurants nearby. But, we know it’s less expensive, and it’s healthier to cook at home. Having this beautiful kitchen makes eating at home more appealing.”
Karen’s decision to hire The Counterpoint Group also helped Cliff come around. “Karen had a friend that referred The Counterpoint Group to us. I went online and was really impressed with the pictures of their work and the reviews. Meeting Marc Tyson, the founder of the business, reassured me. I knew the company would do a good job. Marc really listened to us. He helped us shop for all the materials, and he understood my connection to the original kitchen”, said Cliff.
The remodel included moving and updating appliances, and adding new cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, paint, lighting, and hardwood floors. The countertops look like marble, but they are actually quartz. They are easy to maintain and to clean.
Cliff admits changing the home where his grandparents hosted holiday dinners wasn’t easy. But, he’s glad his wife persuaded him. He loves the overall look as well as the updates. “It’s gorgeous, and the new appliances are great. Our previous oven was too small, and the hood didn’t actually vent.”
The new microwave oven is much easier to use, but Cliff had a tough time parting with the original microwave. “I couldn’t bare to part with the huge microwave oven. So, it’s downstairs. I really liked that Marc understood that connection.”
Cliff says with the renovation that added a new window, he can now see more of his yard and the natural beauty of the woods around the home. He and Karen are thrilled with the look and functionality of their new kitchen. Cliff’s advice to others about remodeling a kitchen is: “Don’t expect what you see on HGTV. It’s not so quick and easy. There are many, many decisions to make, and nothing happens with the speed that it does on television.”
He says Marc helped to prepare him for that realization, and he really liked that he could see the entire design through 3-D computer animations on Marc’s computer. Cliff says Marc’s patience and easy going nature helped to make the process run smoothly. He says he would highly recommend The Counterpoint Group to friends and family looking for a creative, knowledgeable, and caring company.
The Counterpoint Group recently completed this beautiful kitchen working with Artisans of Atlanta. We find these hoods to be very popular right now. Many homeowners are seeking a distinctive look for the cooking area and an elegant feel to the cabinetry surrounding it. We love designing kitchens and offering remodelers and homeowners a wide array of choices for cabinetry.
We love the light cabinets with all the natural sunlight streaming into the kitchen. The dark hardwoods and the cabinetry on the kitchen island provide a beautiful contrast.
